Jersey Forts and Towers

Forts & Towers

As part of the on-going ‘Forts & Towers’ project that converts historic fortifications and unusual buildings for use as holiday lets (visit www.jerseyheritage.org/holiday) we are starting on a project to conserve and open some of the smaller guardhouses that are found on Jersey’s north coast. These will provide great stop off points for visitors and locals using the coastal footpath – for picnics, or just to admire the view.

Many of the sites have been abandoned for some time and maintaining the rich ecology around them will be just as important as repairing the ruins themselves. Most date from the early 19th Century and are built of traditional granted masonry, but some have WW2 concrete additions – a common occurrence here in Jersey.
