Mont Orgueil First Gate
The First Gate at Mont Orgueil Castle has been subsiding for many years. An acceleration in monitored movement suggested that intervention was required and under-pinning has been carried out under the direction of ourselves and Hockley & Dawson Engineers. Trial holes demonstrated that the 18th Century First Gate had been built on back-fill inside the line of the mediaeval curtain wall, explaining its settlement. The First Gate and Chemise wall adjacent are now being repointed in lime to enable the walls to breathe and reduce water penetration.
