Great War Memorial Arch
The Great War Arch at the Weighbridge (now Weighbridge Place) in St Helier was the brainchild of local historian Frank Falle. It commemorates all those who fought in the Great War – more than 8,600 islanders. Among others, it remembers the Jersey Contingent: 326 men who fought together as a unit under the Royal Irish Rifles. The Department for Infrastructure donated a traditional granite masonry arch and the Jersey Development Company the land on which to build the monument. Local companies Dandara (Jersey) Ltd. and Comprop Ltd. funded the project from ‘percentage for art’ planning contributions and Department for Infrastructure masons from the ‘ancient monuments gang’ carried out the work. The arch was officially opened by the Bailiff, William Bailhache, on 1st July 2016.
We designed the memorial, obtained planning permission and oversaw construction on site.
