About us

We help people understand, enjoy and use the historic built environment. We believe that heritage should be at the centre of the regeneration of cities and has an important role in delivering net zero carbon goals.

We encourage people to save and re-use buildings, rather than knock them down. We repair like-with-like and use traditional and re-used materials. We think about the whole life carbon impact, not just running costs. We use low carbon, natural building materials that work with traditionally constructed buildings and avoid plastic insulation products. The results are high quality, solid buildings that look right in a historic and contemporary context and reduce carbon use.

We have many years’ experience conserving, repairing and restoring historic buildings. We carry out surveys and consultancy and work with Architects, Developers, Engineers, Surveyors and Government organisations, often as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

We want to create better public spaces for people and uncover what’s really needed through bespoke public engagement and analysis. From concept to delivery, we manage the creative process between artists, designers, business and public sector. We design and deliver projects in the public realm, including public and stakeholder engagement, parklets, meanwhile and temporary intervention, hard and soft landscapes and public art.

The Jersey Building Preservation Trust

Repairing Jersey’s Handmade Buildings

The repair and use of handmade buildings is important to us. One of the practical problems of restoring historic buildings is a lack of trained craftspeople and construction professionals with the skills to advise and repair. In 2023 we launched the Jersey Building Preservation Trust (JBPT). The JBPT works with international experts to offers practical building conservation skills training in Jersey.

In 2023 our hope was that JBPT courses would spread the word about the joy of repairing hand-made buildings. The regeneration of Pitt Street shows what historic buildings can do for a town. JBPT would like to save more buildings like these and help to revitalise our urban landscape - if you know or have one you think needs careful repair and would benefit our island, please get in touch.

If you’re interested in learning about repairing buildings, join one of our courses and a community that loves old buildings.

Public Voice: Common Ground

Public realm for people

We want to deliver the best public realm for people. We believe that the public realm starts with people and should provide what they need to thrive as a community. To illustrate what’s possible and to lead the charge for change, we launched the public realm pilot Public Voice: Common Ground.

Public Voice: Common Ground won 'Best Placemaking & Community Engagement in the Public Domain' at the Jersey Design Awards 2024. It was presented as an example of best practice at the British Irish Council’s ‘Placemaking in Practice’ symposium, Cardiff, 2023.

Purpose:

  • To deliver public realm improvement based on what’s needed

  • To lead relevant public engagement that enables this

  • To facilitate co-creation and value to all public realm stakeholders

The pilot delivered 9 meanwhile-use case studies and collected data that informed long term investment in St Helier’s public realm. This required a series of bespoke public engagement events working with partners and community ambassadors.

It was a co-delivery model that not only delivered better results, it delivered superior value for money. Seed funding by Economic Development was double matched by business, 3rd sector and volunteers.
