9 Pier Road

This early 19th Century merchant’s house in St Helier has been the home of the museum collection of La Societe Jersiase since the late 19th Century and is now at the heart of the island’s principal museum.

Following water ingress, the roof was repaired and recovered. Welsh slate was re-instated, roof timbers repaired and lead valley gutters de-designed with suitable steps and falls. The missing lantern at the top of the stairs was replaced, with the design deduced from early photographs and remining evidence on site.

We advised on the re-introduction of gas lighting within the building as part of its re-presentation as ‘The Merchant’s House’ and have recently carried out an inspection of the external walls.
