Falaise House Library

We were asked by our client – for whom we had already rebuilt the ruined barn next door – to convert this traditional 18thC building for use as a library. The original roof structure was retained, the exterior repointed, and new windows and doors fitted.

Inside, the rotten floor structure was repaired and a new steel walkway built to link the 2 separate halves of the first floor. It just fits through the ‘A’ frames formed by the principal rafters and beams. Natural clay pammets were laid on the ground floor and a small kitchen and WC provided behind a wooden screen wall.

The space is now used for parties and concerts, as well as reading.
