St Ouen’s Manor

St Ouen’s Manor is the oldest manor house in Jersey, and ancestral home of the De Carteret family. Substantial restoration was carried out in the later 19th Century and the barn to the West of the main tower was converted for use as a billiard room.

A large skylight was added to the roof to provide natural light – and allow all the cigar smoke escape. It was of standard design and never coped with driving weather in its exposed location near the coast. We submitted an application to remove the skylight, repair the roof structure, insulate and re-cover the roof in the same ‘Dreadnought’ plain tiles that were originally fitted.
