PROJECTS

South Hill

Antony Gibb Ltd worked on behalf of the States of Jersey to provide proposals to restore South Hill park and La Collette Gardens, which are part of the unique green corridor that links the town centre with the sea. It is an area rich in geological, ecological, archaeological and historical interest.

As the lead Landscape Architect on the project, we worked in conjunction with Ecologists, Geologists and Transport Engineers to put together a masterplan that includes the restoration of historic features, a review of existing trees and planting, new planting proposals to increase biodiversity and leisure space and to introduce more inclusive access into the parks. Preliminary work included an assessment of potential locations for a new skatepark. Public consultation and discussions with stakeholders formed a key part of the design process so that the parkland meets the needs and aspirations of the people of St Helier.

In 2023, many of the over-mature Evergreen Oaks and Macrocarpa trees were destroyed by Storm Ciaran opening up far-reaching views over the sea to the East of the Island.  These views would have been enjoyed by Edwardian visitors when the Park was originally created.  The park is a valuable green space that is surrounded by residential and industrial areas and has the unique potential to be a well-used and enjoyable place to be.
